Cube Notation uses letters and letter combinations to describe specific turns on a 3x3 Rubik's cube. The purpose of notation is to easily describe an algorithm or a scramble.
Uppercase letters represent a 90° clockwise turn of the layer represented by that letter.
Important: Clockwise is always determined as if you are looking directly at that face of the cube. For example, a B (Back) turn is clockwise when looking directly at the back face. From the front of the cube, this movement will appear to turn to the left.
If a letter is followed by an apostrophe (′), the turn is 90° anticlockwise.
Lowercase letters means you turn 2 layers simultaneously. So you are turning the face and corresponding inner layer. This is sometimes called "Wide Moves" and used in advanced algorithms.
For official scrambles hold the 3X3 with WHITE top and GREEN front.
